The tide pools and sculptured formations are formed out of soft sandstone. Some of the tide pools are formed by boulders grinding out pockets in the sandstone. Purple sea urchins also grind out small pockets in these tide pools.
Sometimes rogue waves hit the shore. They can and have swept people out to sea.
