Cape Disappointment was amazing. We had such a great time exploring the beaches and surrounding area.
The picture doesn’t come close to portraying how awesome the view was.
We visited the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Centre, which overlooks the confluence of the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean. An outstanding museum detailing the Corps of Discovery. The centre was recently renovated for the Bicentennial commemoration of the Corps of Discovery’s 1804-06 expedition, focusing on the discoveries and experiences along the Columbia River.
Maddie looking out at the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean confluence. You can see the southern jetty in the distance.
Cape Disappointment Lighthouse in the background.
Cape Disappointment Lighthouse was built in 1852. It is the oldest lighthouse on the west coast.
We walked out on the Northern Jetty. The confluence is to the right of this picture. Benson Beach and our campground to the left.
Out on the jetty, looking towards the North Head Lighthouse. We stayed at the Cape Disappointment State Park campground. Benson Beach and the campground are in the distance to the far right. The waves are insane here. This picture doesn’t portray their size or frequency. Nothing like Tofino…I can understand why we didn’t see any surfers!
You can see the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Centre and Cape Disappointment Lighthouse in the background. The North Jetty is 2.5 miles long.
Benson Beach is adjacent to Cape Disappointment campground.

There are lots of driftwood forts along the beach. Some had seating inside. This one had a front porch. Too fun!

We had two summer like days at the beach. We came across lots of debris that had washed up on the shore. We even found a dead shark on the beach, at least part of it. We smelled it before we found it. Ewww.
Long Beach Grey Whale skeleton monument.

Good Morning Jill, Bob and Madi,
It’s so good to “visit” with you! What an interesting time you’ve had here. Wow, I can live it vicariously from my home. …
Well, onward ho! Love, Mom/Truda/Oma
