We had a great time in San Francisco. The only thing that was a disappointment was the toll bridge. No signs leading up to it, indicating a toll was coming up. All the signs at the toll booths said $5 per car; however, the lady requested $20 from us. We hadn’t found a bank machine yet and were down to our last $14, so they advised us that they would be sending us a nice fat bill in the mail. $20, plus $25 for not paying. Hmmm
The view from the campground in Pacifica just south of San Francisco.

We made a day trip out to Alcatraz. We decided to take the train into the city. We had troubles finding the parkade near the train station. Our GPS took us on a tour of the neighbourhood before we turned it off and winged it. We found the parkade; however, once we were in it we realized the ceiling was really low. So low that we were cringing and ducking, thinking we were going to hit! Funny thing is that we went all the way up to the top floor and there wasn’t any parking available so we drove around and found another one a bit further away. Uggh.
From the train, we rode on the cable car to Lombard Street. The two men working the cable car get out at this point and physically push the cable to turn it around.
The cable car was packed full so Bob had to hang off the back.

We walked down Lombard Street, heading to Fisherman’s Wharf. Lots of beautiful architecture and steep streets.

While we waited for our ferry to go to Alcatraz, we checked out the model of Alcatraz.
Looking back toward Pier 33.
We had a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the ferry.
Nearing Alcatraz. Prison was the building on the top.
The large building on the bottom were the apartments. Hard to believe children grew up here.
We took an audio tour through the jail.

A photographer took our photo while we were waiting in line in front of a drop cloth with Alcatraz in the background. $20…we declined the purchase.
We had a great time in San Francisco and could have used a few more days here.
Next stop…Santa Cruz to visit my cousin, Jana!!!
Great weather you are experiencing! Good to look at all the sunny photos–we are in the rainy season now for sure. xox Mom/Truda/Oma
Glad you could get in to see the Prison..they were booked solid when I tried years ago..did you get surprised by the “Bush Man” at the Pier?? hahaha.
