A while back we joined a RV club called 1000Trails.com. We paid a flat fee of $550 dollars to pick 2 zones in the USA and camp for free for the whole year. We chose the Southwest and Southeast zones because that is where we want to spend most of our time for the colder months.
We took a side trip from our journey down the coast into the desert to the Las Vegas 1000 Trails. The resort was about 15 minutes from the strip; however, the wifi wasn’t working at all which made day to day planning difficult.
The hallway inside the beautiful Venetian Hotel. I never have seen so much marble in my life.

A view of the Paris Hotel from the Bellagio fountain across the street.
On Black Friday, while all the other tourists were shopping, we decided to check out Freemont Street.

Slotzilla!
We took an educational road trip out to the Hoover Dam.

On the other side of the dam is Lake Mead, the worlds largest man-made reservoir.
We took a guided tour of the inner workings of the dam. Bob and Maddie learning how the dam harnesses the mighty Colorado River.
The 17 turbines generate enough electricity to power 1.3 million homes.
On our way back from Vegas we spent a night in Palm Springs. These were across the street from our RV resort. There were hundreds of them.
Next up…Anaheim

Bob, Ohhh…that selfie you took over the dam gave my stomach a weird feeling! : O
Yep, I think it gave me the same weird feeling looking at it!
Freemont st. (did you get to see the largest GOLD nugget??)….and Margarita Ville?? Has insane coconut encrusted Prawns!! We never made it to Hoover due to self affliction but def enjoying your pictures of the Dam!! There is also a ‘Sunset dinner and cruise’ on a (historic?) Paddle boat (Lake Mead). Next time I’m down there, would love to do that one for sure..among other things to do while there, I was totally eyeballing the dune buggy expeditions through the dessert–unfortunately it was only for a very short period of time and insanely over priced..but you had your very own dune buggy to drive! Not sure what happened with the WiFi down there unless you had to be inside a restaurant or hotel maybe? Check out the main strip Mall at all? It’s nuts..man made river goes all through it, with traditional ‘Venice dudes, long single oar and their banana boats’ …Can’t even remember what they are called..anyways, if you come back up this route, could always do some research when you have good connection and try again..why not? So…have you hit any of those ‘Diners and Dives’ yet? Dying to hear!! Some of them sounded pretty incredible..I follow that ‘Guy’ a bit..hehe
We did a lot of sightseeing in Vegas. Walked up and down the strip and through the malls, etc. The wifi was not working at the rv resort, we had to drive somewhere to get it (Starbucks or McDonalds usually). We have had a lot of struggles in the US with (usable) wifi. We haven’t gone to any Diners and Dives yet but definitely on the bucket list!
Happy Belated Birthday Bob. You guys look great. Great temps in Calgary but not near as warm as where you are travelling. Hoover Dam is incredible! We are all looking forward to 10 days off at Xmas. I am ready. Moderately busy here, some groups are busier than others. Cheers, Mary
