After spending a month on South Padre Island, we headed for Mexico. We had an easy border crossing at Reynosa/Pharr. The roads were great and the views were beautiful. It was a relaxing 8 hour drive to Matehuala. 
One of eight tolls during this leg of our drive. Total cost: $1,270 Pesos ($83 Can / $61 USD). Well worth it to drive these beautiful roads.
We stayed at Las Palmas Midway Inn in Matehuala. It cost $364 pesos ($24 Can / $18 USD) for full hook ups. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was even a swimming pool.
It felt like we were near the jungle in Las Palmas with all the birds, bugs, sounds and smells. Definitely recommend staying here.

Those roads appear to be very smooth. Are there not too many “snowbirds” right now? Jill, if you are still around there,would you be able to take a closeup shot of that vine growing on the wall of the motel? I don’t think I have seen it before…curious, of course!
We are a bit early for the snowbirds but loving the trip so far. We are not near the vine any longer but it sure was beautiful.
