Bob and I were planning to take a trip to Alberta but there were so many complications with smoke, fires, ferries and diesel costs. We decided to stay closer to home and explore northern Vancouver Island.
Anutz Lake
Beautiful camp site right on the beach. The view of the lake and mountains was spectacular and FREE!

Little Huson Caves
It was a short drive to Little Huson Cave Park. There is a short trail through the woods from the parking lot which takes you to a platform overlooking a rock bridge and some deep pools with limestone and rock arch formations. A creek funnels through a steep canyon into a cave and comes out the other side. I am so glad that we visited Little Huson Caves!

Port Alice
Port Alice is a village located on Neroutsos Inlet, southwest of Port McNeill. The community is known for its natural environment, pulp mill, and salt water fishing. We enjoyed a long walk along the shore. Everyone we met along the way was very friendly.

Alice Lake
We stayed the night at Link River Campground and had a site right on the beach at Alice lake. The next morning we would be heading to San Josef Bay.

Holberg
On our way North, we made a pitstop in Port Hardy to pick up some smoked salmon from Hardy Buoys Smoked Fish, then headed to San Josef Bay. We stopped in Holberg and had lunch at Scarlet Ibis Pub. Of course, I was caught with my mouth full!! Thank you Bob. The pub food and service was great and definitely recommend to anyone passing through.

We shook, shimmied and bounced all the way to San Josef Bay. Some interesting signage on the way!

San Josef Bay
We stayed at the Western Forest Products free campsite about a kilometer from the Cape Scott parking lot.

From the Cape Scott parking lot it was approximately 2 1/2 kilometers to the bay along a well maintained gravel path. We spent the day exploring the shoreline and relaxing. It was a very memorable day. We will definitely be back with a backpack and supplies to hike/camp the full trail! (43 km each way)

Kelsey Bay
On the way back home we stopped for the night at a campground in Kelsey Bay, near Sayward, on the east coast of Vancouver Island. The bay has a breakwater southeast of the harbour, made of old ship hulks. The Union Steamship Cardena and three WWII frigates: HMCS Runnymede, HMCS Lasalle, and HMCS Longueil.
We had a very interesting but enjoyable camp site overlooking the Johnstone Strait.

It was a great adventure!
What a fun road trip to see the north island! We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place ❤️ 💕 💖
