On our way to Lagos, we stopped at Praia da Marinha with friends. Our first glimpse of the beautiful Algarve coast.
It was great to explore all the cliffs and rock formations before we descended to the beach.

We stayed in a resort outside of Lagos for a few days. We went for our usual hike in the morning and ended up in Luz. Another beautiful beach! I love all the stone work.

We also took a trip to Sagres, the southern most tip of Portugal. The first picture on left is called the rosa dos ventos, which means a picture of a compass. It is believed to be a mariner’s compass or sundial of sorts.

There were fishermen fishing from the top of the cliffs. Here is some perspective. The photo on left shows the fisherman on the top of cliff. It wasn’t just for show, they were catching fish.

The bottom left picture is of the Farol do Cabo de Sao Vicente.

Afterwards we went for lunch in Vila do Bispo at a restaurant called Ribeira do Poco. My cousin Mark recommended we try Cataplana and the pastel de nata (Portuguese tart pastry) . A cataplana is an item of cookware used to prepare Portuguese seafood dishes, popular in the Algarve region. It was a different restaurant from his recommendation but we loved both dishes. This restaurant weighed your chosen fish. It was a great food and cultural experience.

Bob and I checked out old town Lagos the next day.
