Summer of 2017

We had a great summer with our family and friends. This year we decided to spend more time on Vancouver Island and leave for our travels a little later. We kicked things off with a birthday celebration for our brother in law Chris. It was a great celebration with live Celtic music. A girls trip … Continue reading Summer of 2017

Bryce Canyon

It looks like I missed posting on Bryce Canyon from last April! As we were driving through Utah on our way back to Canada, we saw a lot of interesting landscapes and colourful rock formations. I am glad that we went to the Grand Canyon first, otherwise I may have been disappointed after seeing Bryce … Continue reading Bryce Canyon

Zion National Park

One of our side trips as we headed north to Canada was Zion National Park. We stayed several days and hiked almost every trail. Unfortunately, the Virgin River was running to deep and fast for the river walk.  For our first trail, we decided to hike Angels Landing. We traversed up twenty-one steep zigzags, then through a … Continue reading Zion National Park

Gooseberry Mesa, Utah

The Gooseberry Mesa biking trails and scenery were amazing.  We all had a great time exploring the area. A couple of the single track trails were too technical for Maddie and I, so we stuck with the more open slick rock trails.  A little more wiggle room with less chance of wrestling with the cacti. … Continue reading Gooseberry Mesa, Utah

Lake Mead, Nevada

On our way through Nevada, we camped on BLM land located on the northern part of Lake Mead. We found this amazing spot that was covered in rock art! Last year we visited the Valley of Fire State Park and loved it. We decided to go back and check out the areas we missed since we … Continue reading Lake Mead, Nevada

Lake Havasu, Arizona

Back in the USA, we stopped at Lake Havasu for a few days. Great dry camping on BLM land. We stayed here last year and loved this place. Great stargazing, hiking and stand up paddle boarding. Below are some pictures from our hike at Sara’s Crack. One of the most memorable hikes we have done. … Continue reading Lake Havasu, Arizona

Copper Canyon – Part II

While in Copper Canyon we took a bus tour out to Creel from Posada Barrancas. On our way we stopped at Tarahumaran cliff dwellings, Cusarare Falls, Arareco Lake and San Ignacio Arareco Church. Tarahumara Cliff Dwellings At Cusarare Falls the natives sell their wares along the path. A lot of vibrant colours.  Stairs to the bottom of the … Continue reading Copper Canyon – Part II

Copper Canyon – Part I

Maddie took this photo while driving to El Fuerte. Love it! There were so many trucks transporting produce. These tomatoes are probably destined to be salsa because there is a “La Costena” factory in the background. Tonnes of tomatoes. There must have been over thirty trucks fully loaded. More produce…onions this time. We stayed at Hotel Bugambilias … Continue reading Copper Canyon – Part I

Mazagua

We finally went to Mazagua! It is a large aquatic park in Mazatlan, about a ten minute walk from where we were staying. We had a blast going down some very unusual waterslides. If you didn’t have enough momentum on this ride you wouldn’t make it over the next bump and would go get stuck … Continue reading Mazagua
