Mazatlan Carnival

The Mazatlan Carnival is the third largest carnival celebration in the world. The 2017 theme was Dragons and Alebrijes (brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures). A couple of our friends rented two hotel rooms on the second floor so we could use the balcony to view the parade (having access to a bathroom was a bonus). The … Continue reading Mazatlan Carnival

Mazatlan Food Drive

We were involved in a fundraiser (RV Park valentine’s raffle and concert by Justin Lacey) for one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Mazatlan and raised over 11,000 pesos.  All the money went towards making food hampers which included rice, beans, oil, flour, toilet paper, pasta, tomato sauce, salt, sugar and condensed milk.  We made a total of 101 hampers … Continue reading Mazatlan Food Drive

Sayulita

Sayulita is a very popular surfing town about an hour and a half North of Puerto Vallarta. We had a great lunch, beach walk, ice cream and tour of the town with our friends. There were lots of great shops with beautiful artwork and wares. Makeshift bridge to get over the muddy road.  Maddie did … Continue reading Sayulita

El Quelite

We were invited out to El Quelite for lunch and some shopping with a few of our friends. El Quelite is 45 minutes North East of Mazatlan and resides along a river bank. How cool…a bridge to get to your house. Token donkey. Maddie wanted a ride on him. There were lots of poinsettias, bougainvillea and statues … Continue reading El Quelite

Mazatlan

We flew back to Calgary to spend Christmas with family this year. We had lots of great company and food. Bob and Maddie posing with Spencer. Spencer would love the beaches in Mexico! A couple days after we came back from our Christmas vacation, we drove to Mazatlan. The RV park was filling up, so … Continue reading Mazatlan

Lo De Marcos

We decided to leave Puerto Vallarta early and head to Lo De Marcos to stay at La Parota RV Park. Beautiful beach, friendly people and great food. There are only small local businesses here…no Walmart, Costco or Starbucks! The park is to the left of the blue fishing boats. This place is definitely tied for the … Continue reading Lo De Marcos

Puerto Vallarta 2

The last time we were in Nuevo Vallarta, we walked along the beach from our all inclusive resort to Bucerias. This time we drove from our RV park in Puerto Vallarta and walked around town. Lots of vendors, art and statues! We call this vendor alley. You cannot browse here without the vendors trying to get … Continue reading Puerto Vallarta 2

Puerto Vallarta

While in Puerto Vallarta, we visited the malecon in old town. It is very touristy with lots of vendors trying to get you to buy from them. We prefer the pueblos, where you can buy the local wares directly from the artisan. The art work never ceases to amaze me. Even the benches are colourful pieces … Continue reading Puerto Vallarta

Ajijic

Ajijic (ah-he-heek) was founded by the Spaniards in 1531 and is one of the oldest villages in western Mexico. Ajijic has one of the largest ex-pat communities in Mexico. People are drawn to the year round temperate climate and the cost of living. For instance: we went out for dinner at a little Brazilian restaurant … Continue reading Ajijic

Jocotepec

We took a day trip with friends and visited Jocotepec Malecon Park. Artwork everywhere! Unfortunately, Lake Chapala is not for swimming and we didn’t want to wade through the plants to go out on our paddle board. Even though it was a very grey day out, it was still stunningly beautiful. Lots of gorgeous birds everywhere. I … Continue reading Jocotepec
